When a crisis hits, schools need to be prepared. From safeguarding students and staff to communicating effectively and keeping operations running, critical incidents can quickly overwhelm even the most experienced leadership teams if there isn’t a clear plan in place.
That’s why our upcoming professional development course, Managing Critical Incidents in Schools, is designed to equip Senior Leadership Teams (SLTs) and those responsible for critical incident planning with the skills and framework needed to respond with confidence.
Who is it for?
This session is tailored for members of a school’s Senior Leadership Team or anyone with designated responsibility for developing or implementing a critical incident policy.
What you’ll learn
The course will break down any critical incident into four key phases and show how each stage can be managed effectively. Topics include:
Critical Incident Pathway & taking control
Understand the pathway, the role of a Critical Incident Management Team and common mistakes made during the crucial ‘Golden Hour’
How to make an SLT function as a Crisis Team
Explore the differences between an SLT and a Critical Incident Management Team, how to get coordinated activity underway and how to overcome barriers to action.
Scenario-based learning
Work through an evolving scenario to analyse what is needed at each stage of a crisis and assess how well your current approach stands up.
Capturing key elements in a workable plan
Learn how to condense key activity into a single, succinct critical incident plan of less than 20 pages - practical, clear and ready to use.
Why attend?
The aim of this course is to give participants a realistic understanding of what really happens in a crisis and provide practical strategies, tools and resources to help manage effectively. You’ll leave with insights you can take straight back to your school and apply in your own planning.
